First artwork of the year :la:
It's actually for a New Year drawing but couldn't finish it before I pack up for Chios (btw, Chios was beautiful with good views, good people and good food- and decent wine) (I say decent, because I'm not a wine person at all but I was surprised at the sweet wine they serve in the restaurants. And gosh, pork doner/gyros, holy shit. Ever come to Chios, go to that doner shop next to Mikel. You'll not be disappointed.)
So yeah, just partying Kompania! characters with spashed textures from Lost and Taken and Google Pics (because I'm lazy : D)
And yeah, new year opens with a new character as well! :la: Meet Yelki (or Yelkki/Yerkov/Yorgi, as characters struggle along to pronounce alien names*) the Pecheneg ex-church**  guy who ran away from "that weird religion with a long-ass book about a creepy old guy talking about creepy shit" to be a part of the mercenary group who comes to Constantinople, to track down something that might help the struggling tribe. He is sassy, he is rude but he has the heart of gold at times as well. He also know bits of Greek, thanks to his church duties back in the day, although he usually uses it to curse at people. He has his tragedies as everyone in the group does but he hides them under a thick level of hard-ass look, sass and angry yelling.
What else, Niekko now has a new haircut! The previous one started to be a real headache when it came to do profiles so I said "FK ALL" and look for messy haircuts. The ones I found were mostly edgy, very modern cuts and I'm no fashion expert, ey :grump: So this style might change anytime.
Oh, and yes, that's carpaccio with cheese and cucumbers. Because I wanted carpaccio at the time of painting and I cared nothing about historical accuracies. Carpaccio is life.

*: When I was searching/thinking off names for Yelki, I realised how weird especially for Agop (who is Greek) to pronounce a Turkic name- and also remembered how certain names have variations depending on region, as well as my own experience aboard with by bearing probably the hardest Turkish name to pronounce, at least for an English/Latin-originated speaker. With that in mind, I shall add a naming guide for other characters for future references once I settle off their designs for another sheet
** Well, by "church" I have two options; either Byzantine missionaries in a giant-ass yurt or one church in the middle of nowhere and tribes come and go there whenever they pass along, as far as my educated guess go; with Pechenegs did have exchanges between the Empire and many had converted to Christianity later on, and converting Saami (who are also nomadic, although semi-ish) seem to go to a solid church back in Laestadius' times. Further research shall be carried on that particular subject, as now I find more and more resources for both Pechenegs and Cumans and I am now curious about how did missionaries carry about their thing with a nomadic culture at hand.

BUT ANYWAY, that's a lot of historical rambling and mind bubblings for a silly New Year drawing but y'know, I'm a nerd and that's what I do. But yeah, how was your New Year's Eve guys? How did you welcome the New Year? Do you have any resolutions? Do you have any plans? Let me know all that on comments below :aww:
Hope you enjoy it! :dummy:

Ah! I am happy to hear you had a good time in Chios and I am glad you enjoyed pork gyros.

I faved this a while ago, but somehow I only now find myself commenting on it! Very nice! The characters look interesting and the patterns on the clothes are amazingly executed. I really do believe you should make a folder in your gallery for this project because I am interested. I read a short premise here: 'Kompania!': The Big Meeting (+Video!)  and I think the prospect of people who do not share knowledge of a common language needing to work together is very interesting.

Carpaccio? Looks more like pastirma to me! I don't know if it is accurate, but it does not seem unlikely. People had to come up with ways of preserving meat and cutting it to slices and putting it in spices and salt is one way to do it.
